A table ranks teams from match results. The columns are familiar; the important part is agreeing the points and tiebreak rules before the competition starts.
Common columns
- P — played.
- W, D, L — wins, draws and losses.
- GF and GA — goals for and against.
- GD — goal difference.
- Pts — points.
Points
A common football system awards three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. Competition regulations can use a different system.
Goal difference
Twelve scored and seven conceded gives +5 goal difference.
GD = goals for - goals against
Tiebreakers
- Goal difference.
- Goals scored.
- Head-to-head result or mini-table.
- Disciplinary or fair-play measures.
- A playoff or drawing lots when the rules require it.

Withdrawals and adjustments
Rules may retain or remove results, award walkovers or apply explicit point adjustments. The software should not guess. Keep manual changes visible and auditable.
